– The sacrifice and efforts of these five men laid a foundation which allowed Elisabeth Elliot, the wife of Jim Elliot, and Rachel Saint, sister of Nate Saint, to live with the tribe.

– Through the work of ITEC, many in the tribe began to “walk God’s trail,” leaving behind their violent ways and celebrating their new life in Jesus. But God wasn’t done writing this story. After his Aunt Rachel died, Steve Saint moved to the jungles of Ecuador with his family. He asked the Waodani what he could do for them that the other Western missionaries weren’t already doing.

Helen Roseveare
Helen Roseveare (Sep 1925 – Dec 2016)
– In 1953, she went to the Congo, where she was assigned to the northeast provinces. She built a combination hospital/training center in Ibambi in the early 1950s, then relocated to Nebobongo, living in an old leprosy camp, where she built another hospital. In 1964 she was taken prisoner by rebel forces and she remained a prisoner for five months, enduring beatings and rapes. She left the Congo and headed back to England after her release but returned to the Congo in 1966 to assist in the rebuilding of the nation.
Elisabeth Johanna Shepping
Elisabeth Johanna Shepping (Sep 1880 – Jun 1934)
– She was a German-born American nurse and missionary who served in South Korea for 22 years.
Shepping emphasized ‘‘Not success, but service” and was named one of the “Top 7 Greatest Missionary” by the Department of Foreign Missions of the Southern Presbyterian Church and described as the “Pioneer of the Korean feminist movement”.

The power of forgiveness
Sohn Yang-won (Jul 1902 – Sep 1950)
– Pastor Sohn was a pastor of a leper colony in South Korea from 1938. He is widely known as “The Atomic Love Bomb” because when a young man name, Chai-sun, killed Pastor Sohn’s two sons, he forgave Chai-sun and pleaded with the government to not executed the man who murdered his son.
Instead, he adopted the boy as his own son and made him a pastor.

Below is Pastor Sohn’s 9 prayers of gratitude to God on the day of his two sons’ funeral:
1. My God, I thank You, for having allowed martyrs to be born in the family of sinners such as mine.
2. My Lord, I thank You for having entrusted me, out of countless believers, with such precious treasures.
3. Among my three sons and three daughters, I thank You for my blessings through which I could offer You my two most beautiful children, my oldest and second oldest sons.
4. I thank You for the martyrdom for two of my children, when the martyrdom of one child in itself
5. I thank You for the martyrdom of my sons who were shot to death while they were preaching the gospel, when dying peacefully on his deathbed in itself is a tremendous blessing for a believer.
6. I thank You for my heart is at peace as my sons, who had been preparing to go and study in America, are now in a place that is much better than America.
7. God, I thank You for giving me a heart of love for repentance of the enemy who murdered my sons and compelling me to adopt him as my own son.
8. My Father God, I thank you for there will now be countless more sons of heaven through the fruit of the martyrdom of my sons.
9. I thank and thank Our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given me these eight truths in times of such adversity, the joyful heart seeking faith and love, and the faith that provides me with composure.”
